The Ultimate Pineapple Juice Recipe: Bring the Tropics Home

Remember I told you not to throw away the pineapple skins in the last post. Well here in Trinidad we like to boil the pineapple skin to make a wonderful juice. It’s simple enough to follow without really writing a recipe. 

All you need to do is cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple, then peel off the skin and cut it into small pieces. Put the skin in a pot with enough water to cover it and let it boil for about 20 to 30 minutes. Once the water has turned a lovely golden color, strain the liquid into a jug and let it cool. Voila! You’ve just made yourself some refreshing and healthy pineapple juice!

This simple recipe is a great way to use every part of the pineapple and avoid food waste. Plus, the health benefits of pineapple are numerous. Pineapple juice is loaded with vitamin C, manganese, and bromelain, which can help fight inflammation and improve digestion. So next time you enjoy a juicy

  • Water enough to cover the skin
  • Bitters for taste

Instructions

  • Put the skin in a pot, cover with water and bring to a boil. Strain the water and set aside to cool.
  • When cooled, sweeten to taste and strain again before bottling the juice and refrigerating it.

Notes

You can add pieces of pineapple to push the taste a bit.
