Healthy Snacking Made Easy with Homemade Yam Chips

The yam we used is called Juba Yam and is known for its sticky consistency when boiled. This type of yam is also perfect for some mouth-watering chips. To make the perfect yam chips, you’ll need a few simple ingredients and a little bit of patience. Start by washing your yam and cutting it into thin slices. It’s important to make sure the slices are all the same thickness so that they cook evenly. Next, preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay out your yam slices on the parchment paper, making sure they’re not touching each other.

Tip: To add some flavor: Drizzle a little bit of olive oil over each slice, and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any other spices you like. You could try garlic powder, paprika, or even a little bit of cinnamon for a sweeter

  • Oil for frying
  • water to boil the yam

Instructions

  • Peel and boil the yam until it is cooked. Do not over cook. To test whether the yam is cooked use a knife.
  • Remove the yam from the water, drain and allow to cool. Slice the yam into 1/4 inch pieces.
  • Heat the oil and fry the yam until golden brown. Remove and drain on a napkin. Once most of the oil is drained out place in a bowl and add salt to taste .
  • Dip: Combine a little ketchup, mustard, and homemade pepper sauce.
